Getting Cosmetic Skin Care Products

When you hear of cosmetics, you think of make-up right away. After all, that’s what cosmetics are about. Lipsticks, eye shadow, blush-on, eye liners, mascara, everything in that little black bag of women. But cosmetics do more than just enhancement of our facial features. Cosmetics can protect the skin from the harshness of the environment like the sun. Such is the concept of cosmetic skin care, cosmetics that shield and protect the skin.

In understanding cosmetic skin care, take note that skin products are classified as drugs and cosmetics. The difference is that a drug can alter the function and structures of the skin while a cosmetic simply is only for change in appearance. There are “cosmeceutical” products, which use ingredients that affect the skin biologically, yet still, are not classified as drugs. True enough, they alter the structure of the skin, but still only improve the appearance, hence classified as drugs. Knowing this will help you greatly if you purchase products for cosmetic skin care and you have concerns about allergies or skin compatibility.

To be on the safe side in cosmetic skin care, try products made from natural ingredients. However, this is not a guarantee that a cosmetic skin care product is safe. Apply a small amount on your skin observe the reaction. Also, try to sample the cosmetic skin care product in advance. Take suntan oil for instance. Before going to the beach, try it out first. It would very embarrassing if you had an allergic reaction in the midst of a crowd in a public beach.
