When talking about health and fitness, how can one forget one of the most important organs in the human body, the skin? In fact, it is the largest; with so many functions that one should never underestimate it. The skin covers all other organs and holds every part together. How awful it is to imagine a skinless person walking!
Just like any other organs in the body, the skin performs some essential tasks. The skin keeps you warm when you are feeling cold, and cools you down when you’re hot through the sweat glands located underneath. As your body’s first line of defense, the skin prevents harmful elements from getting into your system, thus keeping you away from infections and other health and fitness problems.
The skin also functions as a sensory organ. It lets us feel things when they are hot or cold. It gives us the sense of pain and pleasure. Through this skin’s unique feature it protects us by acting as a warning device so that we let go of things that are hot and other things like sharp objects that may cause us pain.
For all the benefits that our skin gives us, what can we give in return? Every health and fitness program must include the skin. Giving our skin a proper care helps it perform its functions. It also keeps us from developing skin problems in the future like wrinkles.
